Maintain Load Test (MLT) for Slope Protection Works in Lorong Rashidah Utama 1/3, Seremban

The slope protection works in Lorong Rashidah Utama 1/3, Taman Rashidah Utama, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus involved Jack-in piling method. The Maintain Load Test or static load test is a type of pile test that is conducted to find the geotechnical capacity of a pile. In this project, the tests were only conducted on two piles. The working load of the pile is 30 tonnes; hence the test load will be twice the working load which is 60 tonnes.

Prior to the test, the pile heads were cut off and cement paste were spread on top of them to make sure that the piles are levelled. The MLT set-up consists of a jack acting against a reaction beam, a test plate, four dial gauges, and a pressure gauge. The settlement of the pile was recorded by the dial gauges. The pile was tested by load increments.

The load was increased in four equal loads for every one hour to reach its working load (100%) of 30 tonnes for the first cycle. At this working load, it was maintained for 6 hours. The unloading of the load was done in two equal loads for every thirty minutes. For the second cycle, the load was increased to eight equal loads for every thirty minutes to reach its double working load (200%) of 60 tonnes. At this double working load, it was maintained for 24 hours. The unloading of the load was done in four equal loads for every thirty minutes. The total time for this test was 39 hours. The pile will be considered a failure if the settlement exceeds 12.50mm in the first cycle or 38mm in the second cycle.
